Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. - For the second week in a row, the Eckerd softball team saw a conference contest interrupted by a rain delay.
Unlike last week, the Tritons will resume play looking to overcome a deficit.
Eckerd dropped the opening game of a double-header at Lynn University, 5-1, and trailed the Fighting Knights 3-0 in the top of the inning of the second game when lightning forced the postponement of play.
The game is schedule to resume on Friday at 10:00 AM.
Things got off to a good start for Eckerd when
Kaycie Duncan connected on a solo homerun in the top of the first inning to put EC on the board. However, the Tritons missed a chance to do additional damage after leaving the bases loaded.
The Tritons still led 1-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth, when Lynn strung together four singles to start the inning. EC starter
Nikole Van Gennep appeared to be on the verge of getting out of the inning allowing just two runs after a sacrifice fly and a groundout put two outs on the board, but the Knights plated two more runs on an error before recording the final out.
Eckerd, meanwhile, was unable to create any more scoring chances against Francais Olexa who stranded seven runners on base.
Lynn added another run in the sixth on a two-out double by Leanne Wright.
Wright struck again in the first inning of game two with a three-run home run to put Lynn ahead, 3-0.
Kaleigh Floyd and
Carrie Shere both had two hits in the opening game for Eckerd. Van Gennep (12-8) took the loss, allowing nine hits and five runs - three earned - while striking out three.
The series concludes tomorrow with the completion of the suspended game at 10:00 AM followed by the final game at 12:00 PM.
