ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Tritons men's tennis team was victorious in its fifth consecutive dual matchup as Eckerd trumped the visiting Augustana (S.D.) Vikings 8-1 at the Bullard Courts.
The victory did not come easily as many of the Tritons (11-3) took a few games to get things rolling in their favor, but they were able to get their minds focused for the team's 11th win of the season.
"We kept great focus all afternoon as some of the guys got off to a shaky start," said head coach
Ben Maxwell. "I'm proud of them for having the mindset to stay in their matches."
The Tritons took the first three points from AU (7-7) in doubles action before clinching the match with victories at the top five singles positions. Doubles has been key for EC as the squad continues to build on its already historic season, gaining confidence along the way.
"We have such great energy and confidence on the courts, and it shows as it's been really fun to watch the guys compete," said Maxwell.
The Tritons welcome a long break after a couple of busy weeks and return to action on March 31. EC will travel to West Palm Beach to take on the Sailfish of Palm Beach Atlantic with a 3:30 start time.
