ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd baseball squad returns to the field for a non-conference contest on Tuesday, making up an earlier rain-out date as the Tritons play host to Flagler (Fla.) College at 4:00 PM.
GAME 20: Flagler (11-14) vs. Eckerd (9-10)
COVERAGE: Stats |
WatchPROBABLE STARTER: Lucas Spetsas (First Appearance)
LAST TIME OUT: The Tritons scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 6-6 tie on the way to a 10-6 win over the University of Bridgeport (Conn.) on Friday at the Turley Athletic Complex.Â
Jack Mahan (2-0) picked up the win in four innings of relief. Eckerd got a pair of two-RBI hits in the eighth from
Carter Cashman and
Garrett Hiott to pick up the victory.
STILL STREAKING: With his two-run home run in the fifth inning on Friday, senior
Nick Hill extended his hitting streak to 12 games. Hill, who is hitting .431 on the season, has recorded a hit in 18 of his 19 appearances this year. Fellow senior
Jake O'Rourke also extended his hitting streak to eight games on Friday with a 2-for-5 performance. O'Rourke has two hits in each of his last four games and has seven multi-hit games in 10 appearances while hitting a team-best .486.
DEBUT APPEARANCE: Freshman
Lucas Spetsas is scheduled to make his first career appearance today as the starting pitcher for the Tritons. The 6-foot-2 left-hander prepped at Father Lopez Catholic in Daytona Beach where he earned all-district and all-area honors as a senior.
SET THE TABLE: Getting the leadoff runner on base is always an important piece of offensive success. A trio of Tritons -
Lucas Luopa,
Nick Conti and
Tom Buonopane - have excelled at setting the table leading off an inning. Both Luopa and Conti are hitting .400 (6-for-15) when leading off an inning while Buonopane is close behind at .393 (11-for-28).
SECOND TIME AROUND: Eckerd hosts Flagler for the second time this season as today's game is a make-up date from a rainout on February 6. The Saints won the first meeting this season, 7-2, on February 5 in St. Petersburg.
