ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - After recording a pair of shutouts on Tuesday, the Eckerd softball team returns to conference play this weekend hosting Nova Southeastern in a three-game series beginning on Friday night.

Nikole Van Gennep as the Tritons won twice at The Spring Games in Winter Garden. EC defeated Bentley (Mass.), 5-0, behind Gaburo's effort before handing Southern Connecticut State a 3-0 defeat.Â
Carrie Shere delivered key hits in both games with a two-run single in the opener and a two-run triple in the finale.
SHUT 'EM DOWN: The Tritons have tossed shutouts in their last three outings for a string of 21 consecutive scoreless innings. Van Gennep has two of them, holding Rollins scoreless last weekend before doing the same to SCSU on Tuesday. Gaburo's one-hitter on Tuesday marked the sophomore's first career shuout.
SHERE POWER: Sophomore
Carrie Shere has been coming up with key hits in crucial situations as of late. Twice in Eckerd's last three games, it's been Shere's bat that has put the Tritons on the board late in scoreless games. Her two-run home run against Rollins last Saturday was the difference in a 2-0 Eckerd win. On Tuesday, her two-run triple in the seventh inning broke a scoreless tie. Shere has six RBIs in her last three games.
TAKE IT ON THE RUN: The Tritons were quite aggressive on the basepaths on Tuesday in their two wins. Eckerd swiped eight bases on eight attempts in the two games, bringing its season total to 48 which ranks third in the Sunshine State Conference.
