Box Score MELBOURNE, Fla. - A
Michelle Spesshardt goal put the Eckerd College women's soccer team in a position to equalize the match, but the Tritons couldn't find the tying score in a 2-1 loss at Florida Tech on Saturday night in EC's first road match of the season.
Spesshardt's second goal of the year got Eckerd (3-2-1, 0-2) on the board in the 73rd minute after she converted a free kick through traffic to cut the Panthers' lead in half.
The Tritons continued attacking in the last 17 minutes but were unable to get off another shot.
Florida Tech (4-2, 1-1) had a chance to go ahead early when a foul in the box set up a penalty kick in the 8th minute. However, EC keeper
Angelique Ulmer stopped the shot by Eva Banton.
The match remained scoreless until the 20th minute when Keira McCarthy scored unassisted on a strike to the upper right corner. The Panthers then doubled their lead early in the second half when Mary Watson caught Ulmer off her line and flicked a shot over her into the net.
FIT held a 14-8 edge in shots in the match, although shots on goal were nearly equal with eight for the Panthers and six for Eckerd. Ulmer finished the night with six saves for EC.
The Tritons will look to pick up their first conference win of the season on Wednesday when they visit Florida Southern for a 7:00 PM kickoff.
