Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd College baseball team got back to their winning ways on Tuesday night taking down Clearwater Christian College at home, 14-7.
The bats came out fast a furious for Eckerd in the bottom half of the first.
Lucas Luopa singled up the middle to get the inning started. The second baseman grabbed a stolen bag before advancing to third on an error and scored on a wild pitch.
Rowdy Andrews came up second and drove a fastball over the left centerfield wall for a solo home run to go up, 2-0.
Clearwater Christian would not go down without a fight getting four runs home in the top of the third to take a two run lead. EC answered back in a big way scoring five runs on four hits in the bottom half of the inning, taking a 7-4 lead.
The scoring was not over just yet with more runs coming in the fifth.
Mike Abraham opened the inning with a double and was quickly brought around to score by
Andrew Don who tripled to the centerfielder fence.
Lorenzo Vazquez hit a sacrifice fly to score Don, giving his team a 9-4 lead.
Eckerd added five more runs over the next three innings on six hits to take a 14-4 lead into the ninth. The Cougars managed three unearned runs in the final inning with the Tritons taking home the 14-7 victory.
Abraham had a stellar performance at the plate going 4 for 6 with two doubles collecting two RBIs.
Jake O'Rourke and Don tallied three knocks each while Luopa and Andrews both ended the night with two hits apiece.
Nick Alonzo got the start on the mound for the Tritons, but did not factor into the final decision.
Jack Silberman earned the victory moving to 3-2 on the season while
David Horsfield earned his first save of the season tossing the final three innings of the contest.
Eckerd (14-19, 3-10) will be back on the diamond Wednesday for more midweek action as they welcome in Webber International. First pitch is slated for 6 pm.
