Softball Splits Double Header Taking Series against Barry

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Eckerd College softball team was able to take the series against Barry University winning game one of the double header, 2-0, before falling in game two, 7-2, on Saturday.

Runs came at a premium in game one. Sydney Dinelli gave her team a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with a solo home run. It was the Amber Hay show from that point on with the starter going through the first six innings allowing just four runners to reach base.

Carrie Shere started the top of the seventh inning off reaching first after getting hit by a pitch. A sacrifice bunt by Chelsea Armstrong moved Shere into scoring position. Rachael Luckett entered the game as a pinch hitter and promptly single to right field to bring around Shere for an insurance run.

Barry led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk, but Hay induced two ground balls and got a strikeout to end the game.

Hay snagged her 22nd victory of 2015 in the 2-0 win. Kirby Parnell was 2 for 4 in the game with Luckett stealing her fifth bag of the year.

In game two, the Bucs got on the scoreboard first in the second inning with a two run double. Parnell turned around to double down the left field line to start the top of the third inning and scored on a defensive miscue. Kaycie Duncan reached on a fielder's choice and stole second forcing an errant throw from the catcher bringing Luckett around to cross home plate.

Tied 2-2, Barry busted out for four runs in the bottom of the fourth and one more in the fifth. The Tritons could not get another run in collecting just two hits in the final three innings of play dropping the third game of the series, 7-2.

Erin Dixson suffered the loss in game two moving her record to 9-7 on the season.

Eckerd set a program record in wins this season going 33-20 and 10-14 in conference play. Carolyn Griffin, Brittany Mitchell, Dixson, Hay and Dinelli all played their final game for the navy and teal on Saturday helping the program to its winningest two seasons in school history.
