Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd College baseball team upset one of the top teams in the country on Friday night taking down No. 4 Nova Southeastern, 7-4.
The Tritons put up the first run of the ball game in the bottom of the second. Back to back two out base hits by
Nick Hill and
James Petika had runners on first and third. A third straight base knock from
Jake O'Rourke brought in Hill from third for a 1-0 lead.
Nova showed why they are considered one of the top offenses in the country breaking out the bats in the third. Two home runs and a run scoring double put the Sharks out in front 3-1.
Carter Cashman led off the fourth with a solo blast making it a one run game. O'Rourke hit an infield single bringing in
Mike Abraham to tie it up at 3-3.
Rowdy Andrews reached first on a catcher's interference call to load the bases for
Zach Mitsmenn. The sophomore unloaded on a fastball for his first collegiate home run, a grand slam that put his team up 7-3.
Once the Tritons had the lead, it was starter
Jack Silberman who took control of the game. The lefty was sensational allowing just three hits from the fifth inning on. Silberman was relieved by
Kyle Harding after giving up a run in the eighth. The submariner shut the door helping his team claim the 7-4 victory.
For Cashman, today marked his fifth home run in his last eight games. Hill and O'Rourke both collected multi-hit games tonight while Mitsmenn's four RBIs were the game changer. Silberman moves his season record to 5-3 while Harding collected save number five.
