Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – In game one of a three game series against SSC foe Barry University, the Eckerd College softball team defeated the Buccaneers on Friday night, 6-3.
Both pitchers dominated the first four innings of play with EC starter
Amber Hay racking up five strikeouts keeping the game scoreless.
The Triton offense was able to break through in the top of the fifth. With the bases loaded and nobody out,
Kirby Parnell singled to center to plate
Chelsea Armstrong.
Sydney Dinelli collected two RBIs on a shot into the outfield bringing around
Kiley King and
Brittany Mitchell. Parnell came in to score the final run of the inning crossing home plate while
Brittany Martinez was caught in a run down.
Heading into the sixth with a 4-0 lead, the Eckerd offense tacked on two more insurance runs. After
Dana Paul reached on a fielder's choice, Armstrong blasted her second long ball of the season over the left field wall.
Barry was not going down quietly and put up two runs in the bottom half of the sixth taking advantage of two defensive miscues in the inning. Three hits led to one final run for the Bucs in the seventh with the Tritons pulling out the 6-3 victory.
Hay continues her stellar senior season picking up win number 21 going the distance for the complete game. She struck out six allowing only one walk. Dinelli and Armstrong accounted for four RBIs on the day while Mitchell swiped her third stolen base of the year.
Eckerd (32-19, 9-13) will take on Barry in the final two games of the 2015 season on Saturday. Game one is set to begin at noon.
