Box Score BABSON PARK, Fla. – In their final road action of the season, the Eckerd College baseball team fell behind Webber International early and could not comeback on Wednesday night losing, 5-2.
The Tritons were able to grab the first lead of the ball game in the top of the second inning.
Nick Hill reached on an error and quickly moved into scoring position stealing second.
James Petika hit a hot shot up the middle to bring Hill around for his 19
th RBI of the season.
It would be a short lived lead for EC with Webber driving home four runs in the bottom half of the inning on four hits including two home runs.
Lucas Luopa led off the third with a single and then swiped his 20
th stolen base of the year.
Matt MacMahon singled into centerfield moving Luopa 90 feet closer. The next pitch was a wild one allowing Luopa to cross home plate, cutting the deficit to two.
Both teams were scoreless through the next four innings. WIU added the final run of the ball game in the bottom of the eighth off an RBI single. EC went down in order in the ninth giving Webber the, 5-2 victory.
The Tritons managed six hits in the contest.
Zach Hoppe tossed the first three innings before giving way to the bullpen. The combination of
Mike Eagan,
Jared Habershaw and
Taylor Owens went the final five giving up just one run and striking out 10. Hoppe was tagged in the loss and is now 0-3.
Eckerd (19-25, 6-13) will welcome in No. 4 Nova Southeastern for a three game series set to begin on Friday. First pitch in game one is scheduled for 6 pm.
