Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – In the finale of an eight game home stand, the Eckerd College baseball team fell to Northwood University on Tuesday night, 9-6.
The Tritons got off to a good start in the bottom of the first with a leadoff double from
Rowdy Andrews. Andrews took it upon himself to score the first run of the game advancing to third on a passed ball and coming home on a wild pitch.
Eckerd unloaded for five runs in the third inning which was started by a
Zach Mitsmenn walk. Andrews put runners on first and second with a base hit into left field. The bases became loaded when
Nick Hill was drilled by a pitch.
Carter Cashman brought in two RBIs on a single into right center. Hill and Cashman would also score in the inning. The final run came off the bat of
Jake O'Rourke who doubled in
Adam Moreau.
The Seahawks began to creep back into the game scoring one run in the top of the fourth and three more in the fifth. The big blow came in the sixth inning when NU plated three runs on two hits to take a 7-6 lead.
Northwood tacked on one run in each the eighth and ninth innings. EC left four runners on base over the final three innings of play falling, 9-7.
Cashman ended the night 3 for 5 with two RBIs and a run scored. Andrews collected two hits and scored twice. Mitsmenn grabbed his first triple of the season going 1 for 3 with a walk. The Tritons used a combination of seven different pitchers in the game with
Jared Habershaw getting tagged with the loss.
Eckerd (16-23, 4-12) will travel to Lakeland for a weekend series against Florida Southern (18-17, 6-9). Game one will take place on Friday with first pitch slated for 6 pm.
