Softball Drops Double Header to Lions

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo University completed the sweep over the Eckerd College softball team on Saturday afternoon, taking the first game 8-3 and the second, 6-0.

The Lions (28-16, 8-13) out-hit the Tritons (33-12, 9-9) 20-5 on the day keeping the EC offence off balance.

Amber Hay took the loss in game one, falling to 17-11 on the year. The senior is just two wins away from tying the all-time win record at Eckerd.

Erin Dixson toed the rubber for game two and was tagged with the loss, dropping to 9-5 on the year.

Hay knotted up the score in the top of the second of game one, getting hit by a pitch, grabbing two stolen bases before scampering home off an errant throw. The Lions tacked on one more to take the lead in the bottom half of the inning.

Saint Leo pulled away with a four run fifth inning. Kirby Parnell and Carrie Shere nabbed back to back singles in the sixth and were brought home by Sydney Dinelli who sent a laser to left field. SLU added two more before taking home the 8-3 victory.

The Lions struck early in game two, pushing across five runs taking an early lead. A strong pitching performance from Ashley Ehlers lifted SLU over EC as she shutout the Tritons.

Parnell ended the day grabbing two hits while Dinelli, Dixson and Shere each tallied one.

The Tritons will host Warner University for their final home games of the season on Wednesday. The twin bill is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
