Box Score 2 ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd College baseball team was able to come out on Saturday and take game one of the double header from Barry University, 11-8, before falling in game two, 13-4.
After starter
Jimmy Gutowski sat down the Bucs in order to start the ball game, his offense went to work immediately in the bottom of the first. The team got on the board with two RBIs from
Adam Moreau before
Nick Hill tripled in three runs on a two outs.
Jake O'Rourke brought in the sixth run of the inning with a bunt single plating Hill.
Hill earned a walk to leadoff the third inning. He would eventually score on a ground ball by
James Petika. The Buccaneers grabbed their first two runs of the ball game in the fourth trailing the Tritons, 7-2.
Carter Cashman notched his 15
th double of the season in the sixth bringing around Petika to score.
Matt MacMahon and
Mike Abraham also tallied RBIs in the inning to go up 10-2.
Back to back three run innings by Barry in the seventh and eighth made it a two run ball game. In the bottom of the eighth inning, MacMahon collected his fourth base hit of the game to go along with his second RBI giving his team a three run lead.
Gutowski went 6.2 innings garnering his fourth win of the season. The one-two combo of
Taylor Owens and
Kyle Harding closed the door on the Bucs with Harding coming away with save number four on the year.
Game two got off to a very different start with BU scoring three runs in the top of the first and five more in the second. They would add two more before EC broke through with their first runs of the contest in fifth off a triple by O'Rourke.
The Bucs added two more in the eighth to go up 12-1. Eckerd brought three runs across with an RBI from MacMahon and two off the bat of Hill. Barry tacked on one more in the ninth and took game two, 13-4.
Rowdy Andrews collected five hits in the two games while MacMahon totaled four hits on the day with three RBIs and two runs scored. Abraham added two doubles to his season total with Moreau tallying two hits and two RBIs.
Eckerd (16-21, 4-12) will host St. Thomas University (Fla.) at home on Monday afternoon for nonconference action. It will be a nine inning affair scheduled to start at 6 pm.
