Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – A three game series between the Eckerd College baseball team and Barry University got underway on Friday night with the Buccaneers grabbing the 12-3 victory.
BU jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Eckerd tied it up at 1-1 in the bottom of the second.
Carter Cashman singled to left before moving over to second on a sac bunt. A
Mike Abraham single set up a one out first and third situation before
Lorenzo Vazquez brought Cashman into score with a sacrifice fly.
The first of two five run innings for the Buccaneers came in the fifth with Barry scoring on six hits while taking advantage of two defensive errors. In the seventh, BU put up another five runs, this time on five hits to go up 11-1.
Vazquez led off the bottom half of the inning with his second home run of the season. The left fielder deposited a fastball over the left field wall. Vazquez is now hitting .385 on the year.
Adam Moreau doubled down the line in left field and later scored on a base hit by
James Petika for the team's final run of the ball game. Barry added one more run in the ninth and walked away with the 12-3 win.
Jack Silberman was tagged with the loss for the Tritons moving his season record to 3-3. Vazquez and Cashman tallied two hits each on the night while
Nick Hill collected his sixth stolen base of the season.
Eckerd (15-20, 3-11) will take on the Buccaneers in double header action on Saturday with game one set to start at noon.
