Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – In an out of conference matchup, the Eckerd College baseball team took down Walsh University (Ohio) on Wednesday by a score of 8-1.
Rowdy Andrews put his team on the board first with a sacrifice fly in the third inning.
Nick Hill had led off the inning with a single and landed on third base after a double by
Lucas Luopa. Hill crossed home plate on the sac by Andrews.
The game stayed close and eventually was brought to a 1-1 tie in the top of the sixth with a Cavalier RBI single. The game remained tied until the EC offense unloaded in the seventh and eighth innings.
Luopa broke the stalemate in the seventh with a single through the right side to score
Mike Abraham. Andrews knocked in his second RBI with his second sac fly. An errant throw allowed
Jake O'Rourke to cross home plate on the play making it a 4-1 ball game.
In the top of the eighth
Kyle Harding came in from the bullpen inheriting runners on first and second with one out. Harding proceeded to record back to back strikeouts preserving the lead for his team. Petika, Banko and
Lorenzo Vazquez all tallied RBIs in the bottom half of the inning with Petika knocking in two.
Taylor Owens came in and shut the door on the Walsh offense in the ninth securing the team's 8-1 victory.
Nick Alonzo got the start and went four innings allowing just two hits and striking out four.
Jack Silberman earned his first win of the season moving his record to 1-1.
Matt MacMahon, Luopa, Abraham and Hill all collected two hits apiece. The EC offense totaled a season high 15 hits in the game. Petika along with Andrews both drove in two RBIs.
Eckerd (10-4, 3-1) will get back to SSC play beginning on Friday when they start a three game series with Palm Beach Atlantic (6-6). First pitch in game one is set for 6 p.m.
