ST. PETERSBURG -- The Eckerd Tritons baseball team dropped the series finale to the USC Beaufort Sand Sharks on Sunday by a score of 3-2.
A pair of scoreless frames kicked off the game before the Tritons struck first with both of their runs in the third.
Ean Gimson began the inning with a base hit and a stolen base, and was followed by
Joey Bazydlo's RBI double two batters later. After Bazydlo stole third,
Kam Gelwick doubled to bring him in and give the Tritons a 2-0 lead.
Neither team saw a run cross home plate for the next three innings. Starting pitcher
Nathan Norwood went through six scoreless innings on the mound before the Sand Sharks tallied one off the bullpen in the seventh. Eckerd threatened with base runners over the next two innings, but USCB took the lead in the top of the ninth to steal the game by one run. The Tritons collected two hits in the bottom half, but were unable to push either across.
Eckerd will be back in action next weekend for a series at Florida Tech.
