SAINT LEO, Fla. -- The Eckerd Tritons baseball team was defeated by the Saint Leo Lions in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday by a score of 12-8.
The Tritons were the first to get on the board in the top of the second, seeing a successful double steal result in a run after
Luis Garrido crossed home plate. Saint Leo answered with five runs in the third, but Eckerd earned two of them back in the fourth after Garrido drove in two with a home run to left field. The Lions tallied one in the bottom half to make it a 6-3 score after four complete.Â
Following a scoreless fifth, the Tritons evened the score up with a three-spot in the sixth. Garrido grabbed his third RBI of the game with a single to begin the rally, and
Dawson Jones deadlocked the game with a two-run home run. Saint Leo erased the damage with three of its own in the bottom half before adding one more in the seventh.Â
Eckerd cut the four-run deficit in half with a pair of runs in the eighth.
Thomas Fratto was responsible for the bringing in the first run after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Joey Bazydlo's RBI fielder's choice got the Tritons within two at 10-8. Saint Leo responded with two more in the bottom half to bring the score to its 12-8 final.
The Tritons will be back in action this weekend for a non-conference home series vs. USC Beaufort.
