Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. – In out of conference action, the Eckerd College baseball team was defeated by Southeastern University Tuesday night, 5-3.
Scoreless through the first two and a half innings, Southeastern broke the tie in the bottom of the third bringing around two runs off of two hits.
The Tritons had managed just one hit through the first six innings of play before busting out the sticks in the top of the seventh.
Rowdy Andrews started a two out rally with a single into center field.
Grant Banko followed up his teammate with a single of his own before
Jake O'Rourke loaded the bases reaching on an error.
Lucas Luopa then roped a bases clearing double to the left center gap knotting the game up at 3-3.
SEU regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning garnering two runs on three hits and capitalizing on an EC error by the defense. Andrews got on base with a single in the ninth bringing the tying run to the plate, but they fell short of a late inning rally with the Fire taking the game, 5-3.
Andrews along with Luopa both recorded multi-hit games. For Luopa, it was the second baseman's 16
th multi-hit game of the season as he continues to hit over .350 on the year.
Nick Alonzo got the start for the Tritons, but did not factor into the decision.
Gardner Nutter was tagged in the loss moving his record to 1-1. Four pitchers took the mound for EC totaling 12 strikeouts in the game.
Eckerd (13-18, 3-10) will be back in the friendly confines of the Turley Athletic Complex on Wednesday for midweek action against Webber International. First pitch is slated for 6 pm.
