Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – It was a rain soaked Friday night at the Turley Athletic Complex with the Eckerd College softball team dropping the series opener to Lynn University, 7-4.
When the game got underway a simple mist was falling over the diamond. It was a quick three up, three down top of the first for
Amber Hay who was in the circle for the Tritons. The EC offense quickly jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom half of the first with an RBI single off the bat of
Kaycie Duncan to score
Carrie Shere.
The Fighting Knights managed to get two runs on the board in the top of the second capitalizing on two Triton miscues from the field. In the top of the third inning the mist had turned into a consistent down poor with winds howling throughout the field. Three more EC errors led to a five run inning for Lynn.
Eckerd tacked on one run in the bottom of the fifth when Duncan scampered home on a two out RBI single from
Chelsea Armstrong. The Tritons made a valiant push in the bottom of the seventh scoring two runs making it a 7-4 ball game and loaded the bases with two outs. EC was unable to complete the comeback dropping the first game of the three game series.
Duncan boasted the only multi-hit game for the Tritons going 2 for 3 with a walk, one RBI and one run scored.
Dana Paul, Shere and Armstrong were responsible for the other three runs knocked in. Hay suffered the loss in the game moving her season record to 16-6.
Eckerd (27-7, 8-5) will be back on the diamond Saturday for games two and three of the series. Five seniors will be honored before the start of game one. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
