Box Score 2 ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – In double header action on Saturday, the Eckerd College softball team fell to No. 18 Rollins College in both games, 12-4 and 5-1.
The Tritons (27-6, 8-4) fell to the Tars (24-4, 10-3) in game one of the series on Friday night, 10-2.
Amber Hay picked up her fifth loss of the season in game one before giving way to
Carolyn Griffin and
Grace Willeck.
Erin Dixson toed the rubber for game two. The Senior fell to 9-1 on the year, pitching all seven innings for Tritons.
Game One – Rollins 12, Eckerd 4The Tars jumped out on the Tritons early, tagging starting pitcher,
Amber Hay with two runs in the first inning. RC ripped off three hits in the top of the third, extending their lead to 6-0.
Stepping to the plate in the bottom of the third,
Carrie Shere crushed the seventh home run of her career.
Kara Oberer then followed her lead and launched one of her own for back to back home runs.
Rollins offense erupted in the fourth adding on six more runs. In the bottom half of the inning,
Kiley King led off with a single and was put in scoring position as
Chelsea Armstrong doubled to deep right center. The two then scored off an RBI from
Dana Paul and a wild pitch.
The Tritons finished with five hits in game one with
Sydney Dinelli and Armstrong grabbing doubles.
Game Two – Rollins 5, Eckerd 1 Three innings went by scoreless as neither team was able to crack the starting pitchers. The Tars got on the board first tacking on two runs in the top of the fourth.
The RC bats struck again in the seventh, adding three insurance runs on the board. Determined to not get shutout, the Tritons pushed one run across the plate scoring Oberer who walked her way on.
Kiley King finished the second game a perfect 2 for 2 while
Kaycie Duncan picked up two hits of her own.
Eckerd will continue Sunshine State Conference play, hosting Lynn University next weekend. Game one of the series will be Friday night at 6 p.m. followed by a double header on Saturday.
