Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Friday night marked the opening of a three game series between the Eckerd College baseball team and No. 25 Saint Leo University with the Lions coming out on top, 10-1.
In the top of the first inning, SLU's Jordan Taylor put his team up early with a three run home run. The Lions added two more in the third and one in the fourth.
Carter Cashman got the Tritons on the board in the bottom of the sixth. The center fielder drove an inside fastball over the left field wall for his second long ball of the season. Cashman now leads the team with 16 RBIs on the year.
Saint Leo added four more runs in the final three innings scoring one in the seventh and three more in the eighth. EC did not have an answer dropping game one of the series, 10-1.
Jimmy Gutowski was tagged with the loss moving his season record to 3-3.
Gardner Nutter replaced Gutwoski in the seventh to finish out the game on the mound.
Adam Moreau was 2 for 3 after returning to the lineup as the designated hitter.
Eckerd (13-11, 3-5) will meet up with the Lions for games two and three of the series on Saturday in double header action. The first game is slated to begin at noon.
