Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – In midweek action, the Eckerd College baseball team dropped Ave Maria on Wednesday night at home, by a score of 5-0.
Both teams were quiet in the first inning, but EC grabbed the lead in the bottom half of the second.
Grant Banko led off the inning with a walk.
Mike Abraham ripped a ball to the left field gap sending Banko from first to third.
Andrew Don grounded out to shortstop bringing Banko in to score the first run of the contest.
Abraham grabbed his second hit of the ball game in the fourth with a double down the left field line. Don moved the Tritons third baseman 90 feet closer to home with single through the left side. Abraham would eventually score on a passed ball. Don trotted home one batter later on a two out single off the bat of
Jake O'Rourke to go up 3-0.
EC tacked on one more in the fifth inning when Abraham collected his third hit of the day, an RBI single to left field. The team's final run came in the seventh. After reaching on a single up the middle,
Lucas Luopa stole second. The scrappy second baseman then went to steal third and on a bad throw by the catcher, proceeded to cross home plate.
Toeing the rubber for the Tritons was
Ben Deaver. The sophomore was sensational on the bump, giving up just two hits over seven innings of work. Deaver walked just one batter while striking out nine.
Mike Eagan came in from the bullpen racking up three strikeout victims in two innings to secure the 5-0 victory.
Abraham boasted the only multi hit night for the Tritons going 3 for 4 with one RBI and one run scored. Don and O'Rourke both tallied one RBI each while Luopa swiped two bags in the game.
Eckerd (13-10, 3-4) will host No. 25 Saint Leo for a three game series beginning Friday. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
