Box Score ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – In nonconference action, the Eckerd College baseball team could not hold onto the lead with Flagler College coming from behind to grab the 6-5 win on Tuesday night.
Matt MacMahon had a solid day at the plate which started in the second inning when the third baseman doubled down the right field line. A defensive miscue by the Saints led to the first run of the ball game allowing MacMahon to scamper home from second.
Flagler answered back in the bottom half of the inning plating three runs on two hits. The Saints capitalized on two Triton errors to take a 3-1 lead.
EC waited until the sixth to get back on the board. MacMahon singled through the right side to leadoff the inning. A sacrifice bunt by
Mike Abraham moved MacMahon into scoring position.
Nick Hill brought the contest to a one run game driving an RBI double into right field.
Jake O'Rourke tied the ball game in the seventh scoring an error. With
Carter Cashman and
James Petika on second and third, MacMahon collected his third hit of the game bringing in both runners to put his team up 5-3.
The Saints made it a one run ball game in the bottom of the seventh.
Kyle Harding came in to replace
Zach Hoppe on the mound earning a strike out and fly out to end the inning, stranding two runners on base.
Down 5-4 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning, Flagler was quickly down to their final out. The Saints then sent five batters to plate grabbing two runs to come away with the 6-5 win in the ninth.
Jack Silberman went 5.2 solid innings on the bump giving up just one earned run while striking out two.
Taylor Owens was tagged with his first loss of the season.
MacMahon ended the night 3 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Grant Banko, Abraham, Hill and O'Rourke all collected two hits apiece.
Eckerd (12-10, 3-4) will be back on the diamond for more midweek action on Wednesday. EC will host Ave Maria University (15-18) with first pitch slated for 6 p.m.
