Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. – In the opening game of a three game series, the Eckerd College baseball team fell to No. 19 Lynn University on Friday afternoon, 10-7.
LU was the first team to jump on the board knocking in two runs in the bottom of the third and then two more in the fourth.
The Tritons tacked on three runs in the fifth taking advantage of Fighting Knights miscues. An error by the second basemen had runners on first and second when
Lucas Luopa singled to right center, scoring both
James Petika and
Jake O'Rourke. Luopa then stole home later in the inning for their third run.
Lynn answered back in the bottom half of the inning to take a 7-3 lead.
Three singles in the top of the sixth would bring the Tritons within one as Petika, O'Rourke, and Luopa crossed the plate.
The Knights added three more runs before
Matt MacMahon tacked on Eckerds final run of the game in the top of the ninth, plating
Carter Cashman.
Petika and Luopa each collected three hits with two runs scored while O'Rourke crossed the plate twice.
Jimmy Gutowski toed the rubber for the start and went four innings while striking out four. Gutowski was tagged with the loss moving his record to 3-2 on the season.
Eckerd (12-7, 3-2) and Lynn (15-5, 2-2) will meet again tomorrow in Boca Raton for a doubleheader scheduled to begin at Noon.
