Box Score FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Tied with less than a minute remaining in the game, the Eckerd College men's basketball team was defeated by Nova Southeastern on Wednesday night, 64-59.
The Sharks jumped out in front to a 5-0 lead before
Jerrick Stevenson hit a three for EC's first points of the game. Stevenson gave his team their first lead of the game hitting his second trey in the first five minutes of the contest to go up 9-8.
With 11 minutes left in the first half,
Keshawn Ingram hit a shot from three point land to tie it up at 15 all. Minutes later Ingram hit his third three to bring EC back within two. It didn't take long for the freshman to stay hot from behind the arch hitting his fourth three ball of the first half to take a slim one point lead.
Nova then pulled off an 11-3 run to go up by seven. Ingram added two free throws at the end of the half sending the Tritons into the locker room down by five, 36-31.
Both teams came out firing in the second half scoring a combined 12 points in the first three minutes of action.
Malcolm Brunner Jr. gave the Tritons the lead with a strong drive to the basket for two points. Stevenson dropped in a three on the team's next trip down the court to go up 45-41.
NSU's Maurice Fuller hit a go ahead three for his team midway through the final 20 minutes of play. Ingram answered with his 16
th and 17
th points of the night to regain the lead. With less than four minutes on the clock, the Tritons found themselves down by two.
After being fouled, Ingram went to the line and drilled both free throws with 1:28 left in the game. The Sharks managed to hit a three pointer and two free throws to take down Eckerd in the final minute of play, 64-59.
Ingram led all scorers with a career high 19 points. Brunner Jr. found himself two rebounds shy of a double-double finishing with eight rebounds and 10 points. Stevenson and
Shane Phillips also had solid performances with nine and eight points respectively.
Eckerd (11-9, 4-6) will be back in the friendly confines of the McArthur Center on Saturday to take on Lynn University (14-5, 7-3). The game is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
