Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – In the opening game of a three game series, the Eckerd College baseball team fell in a close contest to Florida Tech on Friday night, 4-2.
FIT jumped on the scoreboard quickly putting up one run in the top of the first inning. The EC offense was kept quiet until the fourth. 
Carter Cashman singled to center field before crossing home plate on a 
Mike Abraham single. An error by the Panther defense allowed Abraham to come in from third base to put his team up 2-0.
In the top of the sixth, Florida Tech plated a run to tie the game up at 2-2. One inning later the Panthers knocked in two more runs to take the lead.
Jake O'Rourke led off the eighth inning with a single, but he would get stranded on second. In the ninth, 
Zach Mitsmenn shot a pinch hit single through the left side. That would be the final hit of the game for the Tritons going down 4-2 to the Panthers.
Adam Moreau and Cashman collected the two RBI's in the game while both picked up one hit a piece. 
Jimmy Gutowski went 6 1/3 innings allowing two earned runs while striking out four. Gutowski was tagged with the loss moving his season record to 2-1 on the season.
Eckerd (8-4, 3-1) will take on Florida Tech (14-0, 1-0) in games two and three of the series on Saturday. Game one of the double header was moved up from noon to 11 a.m. with game two set follow.
