Box Score WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Eckerd College baseball team collected 12 hits on Friday night in game one of a three game series against Rollins College defeating the Tars, 7-3.
Lucas Luopa stepped into the box to leadoff the top of the first and quickly put his team out in front with a solo home run. It was his first of the young season. The Tars were able to get a run across in the third inning to knot the game up at 1-1.
The two teams exchanged one run each in the fourth with
Matt MacMahon getting the RBI for EC. It was in the top of the fifth when
Carter Cashman doubled down the left field line bringing around
Rowdy Andrews and Luopa that the Tritons created some breathing room on the scoreboard.
Rollins' Pesky tripled in a run in the bottom half of the seventh inning to make it a one run ball game. The offensive flood gates opened up for Eckerd in the eighth.

James Petika and Luopa all added RBI's to take a 7-3 lead.
The four run lead allowed the Triton pitching staff to take over and shut down the Tars on the way to the 7-3 victory.
Jimmy Gutowski improves to 2-0 on the year after going seven innings giving up three earned runs, allowing one walk and striking out nine.
Kyle Harding relieved the starter and went the final two innings striking out three batters and picking up his first save this season.
Luopa ended up going 4 for 5 with two RBI's and two runs scored while collecting a stolen base. Cashman and Moreau grabbed two hits each on the day with Cashman hitting his fifth double of the season.
Eckerd (6-2, 1-0) will be right back on the diamond Saturday for games two and three of the series. The first game of the double header is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
