LAKELAND, Fla. - After a rain shortened opening day, the Eckerd College men's golf team completed the final two rounds of the Matlock Collegiate Classic.
The Tritons managed to get through the first three holes of round two on Monday before the skies opened up and rain postponed the second 18 holes. Round two started just a little after 8 a.m. Tuesday morning.
William Moraldo posted the best round for Eckerd shooting a 75 in the second round before finishing with a 79 for a three round total of 233. Moraldo finished tied for 65.
After ending day one with a 79,
Joe Testerman came back to hit 81 followed by a 79 on the final 18. Testerman battled the rough early on, but continued to play hard finishing strong on the back nine.
Paul Vogt capitalized on the shortened day on Monday coming back to post his best total of the tournament with a 77 in round two. For Vogt, the 77 was his best round of his young collegiate career. The long day took its toll on the freshman finishing with a 248 on the trip.
Victor Appelgren played his best golf in round two shooting 81 while Mitchell Clark posted solid numbers in the third round with a 92. Appelgren and Clark finished with a 252 and 279 respectively.
Nova Southeastern took home the title with a total team score of 838. Barry's Adam Svensson was the top individual golfer in the Classic posting a three round score of 204 (-12).
"We played against great competition this week," said Head Coach,
Bill Buttner. "It gave our young players a chance to see some of the best golfers in the conference and the experience will only make them better."
Eckerd will have almost a month before their next contest beginning on March 7
th at the 2015 Southeastern Collegiate in Valdosta, Ga.
