Lynn Controls Second Half in Win over Tritons

Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. - The final 45 minutes proved to be unkind to the Eckerd Triton women's soccer team as Lynn University scored four times in the second half en route to a 4-0 win over the Tritons on Saturday afternoon.

The match was evenly-played in the first half as the teams went to the locker room in a scoreless tie.  Lynn held a narrow 5-3 edge in shots while possession was nearly equal.

The second half, though, turned sour for Eckerd.  The Knights opened the scoring shortly after the half began when Claudia Kraut punched in a rebound off the crossbar from a shot delivered by Donish Cole in the 48th minute.

Lynn (3-10-1, 2-5) doubled its lead in the 56th minute on a close-range shot by Caroline Duerr, as she one-timed an Emily Weiberg cross from the left corner past EC keeper Angelique Ulmer.  Duerr added another goal in the 63rd minute, finishing off a touch from Brianna Lemerise.

The Knights tallied their final score in the 86th minute on a ball that was cleared behind the Triton defense where Lemerise found herself alone against Ulmer and finished for the final margin.

Lynn out-shot Eckerd (4-7-2, 1-5) in the second half, 11-2.  The Tritons placed two shots on goal in the match, but both were stopped by Knight keeper Alexa Downie.

Eckerd returns to the Turley Athletic Complex next week to host its final two matches of the regular season, starting with a non-conference contest against Florida Southern on Wednesday at 7:00 PM.
