Box Score 2 ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd College volleyball team took home two more wins on day two of the Eckerd Classic to end the tournament with a dazzling, 4-0 record.
The Tritons (7-1) offense showed their strength as
Ali McAlvany led the charge tallying a team high 22 kills on the day along with three service aces.
After falling in set one to Puerto Rico,
Lauryn Nelson changed the momentum and led the team to the first set win of the day. She hit an astounding .667 tallying six kills.
In match one,
Tjasa Kotnik totaled 11 kills while newcomer,
Madison Whiting, earned six.
Setter
Emily Schadow had an almost mirror performance of day one, dishing out a whopping 55 assists on the day. She totaled 105 assists during the Classic.
The final match of the weekend took center stage as Eckerd defeated Chadron State, 3-1.
The Tritons won the first two sets of the match, fell in the third, but came back with vengeance to defeat the Eagles (25-14, 25-21, 13-25, 25-19).
Grace Jones and Nelson led the team in kills earning 10 each. Jone's performance on the day was her best this season as she finished the day with an attacking percentage of .515.
Libero,
Kaitlyn Sibson, was a force to be reckoned with on defense as she recorded 30 digs on the day while setter,
Gabriella Reis Guimaraes, proved her strength on the court with 32 assists.
"I was happy with our performance this weekend," said head coach,
Michelle Piantadosi. "We saw an improvement in a lot of the areas we worked on leading up to the tournament. Offensively we were dynamic and our setters did an outstanding job distributing the ball to our hitters."
As for the other side of the ball, Piantadosi said, "defensively we were scrappy, but organized and showed a relentless attitude."
Eckerd will have a six day break before returning to action and starting Sunshine State Conference competition as they are set to face Barry away on Friday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m.
