MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Eckerd College baseball team dropped the Sunshine State Conference series opener in its final road trip of the season to Barry University, 15-3, on Friday night at Feinbloom Field.

The Tritons (24-20, 8-11 SSC) ended the night still searching for their first victory over the Buccaneers (27-17, 7-12 SSC) since the 2006 season when Eckerd took the first game of a three-game series at home, 7-6.

Sophomore Rowdy Andrews got the Tritons started in the third inning with a two-out single to left field. After a walk to senior Shane Bishop, junior Mike Abraham followed with an RBI single to center field to give Eckerd an early 1-0 lead.

A two-out single to center field from JC Cardenas would score two runs as the Buccaneers took a 2-1 lead in their half of the fourth.

Eckerd knotted the score at two as Abraham tallied his second hit and RBI of the game in the fifth on a single down the right field line to score Andrews.

The Tritons took a brief 3-2 lead in the sixth as a two-out single up the middle from Andrews scored sophomore Matt MacMahon.

Barry's offense busted the door wide open in the bottom half of the sixth as junior Greg Brodzinski started the inning with a two-run blast to left-center field.

A three-run home run from junior Luis Rios-Reyes started a two-out surge for the Buccaneers as Tyler Kellman followed with an RBI double, Brodzinski drove a two-RBI single to left field and junior Branden Shaw belted a two-run home run as the Buccaneers gained an 13-3 advantage.

Barry added runs in the seventh and the eighth innings.

Freshman Luis Deville earned the win on the mound to improve to 2-0 on the season. Deville tossed the sixth and seventh innings in relief and allowed one run on two hits.

Andrews led the Tritons' offense, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI. The game was Andrews' 11th multi-hit game of the season.

Abraham also added a 2-for-5 effort with two RBI and posted his fourth straight game with a run batted in.

Eckerd will conclude its series with Barry in a doubleheader beginning tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
