Baseball Back On Track in Win Over Clearwater Christian, 7-1

Box Score

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd College baseball team snapped a recent four-game slide, taking down Clearwater Christian College on Thursday night at the Turley Athletic Complex by a score of 7-1.

The Tritons (22-17, 8-10 SSC) met with the Cougars (13-24 overall) earlier in the season and prevailed in convincing fashion, 15-4.

In his 24th season, Eckerd head coach Bill Mathews picked up win No. 499 as he moved one game closer to achieving a true managerial milestone with the magical number of 500 just one victory away from his grasp.

After two Tritons' errors loaded up the bases, senior David Edwards walked in the Cougars first and only run of the game in the second inning.

Eckerd knotted the score at one in the third inning after a stolen base and two consecutive Cougars' throwing errors moved freshman Lucas Luopa all the way around to score from first base.

The Tritons tabbed the go-ahead run in the sixth as Luopa led off the inning with a single to left field. An infield single from junior Mike Abraham later in the inning would bring Luopa in to score.

Senior Lincoln Dunham added another run in the sixth on an RBI fly out to center field to score sophomore Rowdy Andrews.

Eckerd added four insurance in the seventh off of singles from Luopa, Shane Bishop and Abraham as well as a Cougars' error and wild pitch.

EC starter Mike Eagan earned his fifth win of the season. Eagan tossed 5.1 innings and allowed one run (unearned) on five hits and two walks and struck out two.

The Tritons' bullpen combined to allow just two hits in the remaining 3.2 innings.

The Tritons will take on Palm Beach Atlantic University tomorrow evening at 6 p.m. to begin a weekend series.
