Box Score
BOCA RATON, Fla. – Starting pitcher Kasey Murray tossed a complete-game one-hitter to help guide Lynn University past the Eckerd College softball program in Friday's Sunshine State Conference series opener, 2-0.
The Tritons (14-15, 3-7 SSC) were meeting the Fighting Knights (18-16, 2-8 SSC) for the second time this year after both teams squared off at the EC-hosted Spring Invitational in Clearwater, a non-conference result slightly in favor of Lynn by a 4-1 score.
Eckerd's sophomore All-SSC outfielder
Kaycie Duncan spoiled Murray's no-hit bid in just the third at-bat of the afternoon, but the EC offense would only reach base on a walk and error the rest of the way.
Murray and EC's starting pitcher
Erin Dixson were locked in a pitcher's duel through four scoreless innings before the Fighting Knights manufactured the game's only runs in the fifth.
Murray helped her own cause at the plate with a 2-for-2 effort, including an RBI and a sacrifice fly. Catcher Devin Kochergen drove in the only other Lynn run with her two-out run scoring single.
Dixson scattered both runs on six hits to go with a pair of strikeouts in her 13th complete game in 17 starts this spring.
The Tritons and Fighting Knights will meet on the field tomorrow to play out a doubleheader at Lynn's home complex. The start time for game one is set for 1 p.m.
