ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.
– The Eckerd College men's tennis program is moving forward with sustained momentum after assembling its third straight win with a shutout pitched against West Chester (Pa.) University on Thursday afternoon, 9-0.

A total of three sports brought down the Golden Rams (3-5, 0-0 PSAC) this week after the Eckerd baseball team won in extra innings and women's tennis pitched an identical shutout this afternoon.

The Tritons (4-9, 0-4 SSC) collected their third win in the past six days after taking care of business against Merrimack (Mass.) College on Tuesday and Bentley (Mass.) University last Saturday.

"They're improving every day and the team camaraderie is starting to show," said EC interim head coach Ben Maxwell. "The support for each other is becoming strong and it's shown in the last few matches. They took care of business early in doubles and went into singles up 3-0. I am very proud of the effort and focus from the men today."

The No. 1 doubles tandem of sophomores Yosua Adiyasa and Frazier Springfield forged ahead for their sixth win as a pair.

Following suit in doubles action was junior Stephen Felman and senior Nikita Valuiskikh, their fourth victory as a unit, and junior Luke Burton paired with freshman Eddie Lewis.

The Tritons swept doubles by scores of 8-3, 8-2 and 8-4, respectively.

Adiyasa improved to 9-4 as he worked his sixth consecutive singles win in a compelling head-to-head matchup after he emerged in a first-set tiebreak against WCU's Jared Howat.

Springfield grabbed his fourth singles win in five attempts as he and Valuiskikh polished off straight-set decisions before No. 4-6 played out single pro-set format finals.

After putting together a three-set victory against his opponent from Merrimack earlier in the week, Felman earned his third consecutive singles win, this time with an 8-4 score.

Burton and Lewis pieced together winning 8-2 and 8-5 scores over their respective opponents in the No. 5/6 singles slots.

Currently in the middle of a nine-match homestand at the Turley Athletic Complex, the Tritons will prepare to host St. Olaf (Minn.) College on Monday morning with a 10 a.m. start scheduled.
