ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.
– The Eckerd College women's tennis program tallied its fourth win of the spring campaign, this time in shutout fashion while taking down Bentley (Mass.) University on Saturday, 9-0.

The Tritons (4-7, 0-5 SSC) pitched their second consecutive blanking (dating back to 2012) against the Falcons (6-4, 5-0 NE-10) after last year's scheduled meeting was postponed due to weather.

Down the line, all six singles matches and three doubles contests went in favor of the Tritons at the Turley Athletic Complex.

"It was a huge team effort to sweep Bentley and I'm so proud of the women today," said EC interim head coach Ben Maxwell. "Everyone came out strong and focused. These are the kind of matches we need to win to gain confidence as we push further into the season."

Juniors Gipson Hawn and Carson Trapp worked together in an 8-1 doubles win at the top of the lineup while identical 8-3 winning scores were compiled by the duos of Erika/Emily Fridrik and Katie Benn/Amy Naula against their respective opponents.

Transitioning into singles action with a comfortable 3-0 cushion, Eckerd claimed five of the six bouts in straight sets. Anchoring the rotation, Hawn and Trapp delivered wins against Ludmila Yenus and Catherine Gianino and freshman Emily Fridrik cashed in on her fourth win of the season.

Erika Fridrik provided a stirring second-set comeback to overcome a tough tiebreaker and outlast Brittani Hetyei in the third set, 10-6, to conclude the No. 3 battle.

Both Benn and Naula improved to 6-4 on the season in singles competition and as a pair, they lead the team in doubles victories with five.

Benn took all possible 12 games from her opponent in the No. 6 slot, Lexie Hinrichs, and Naula polished her second set with a similar 6-0 score.

The Tritons will continue their four-match homestand on Monday afternoon against another school from Massachusetts when Merrimack College pays a visit for a 2 p.m. scheduled dual.
