One-Hitter Stymies Softball to Open Weekend Series at Rollins, 4-0

Box Score

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Rollins College starting pitcher Niki Fogle slowed down the Eckerd College softball program's offense with a one-hit shutout to begin a weekend Sunshine State Conference series on Friday evening, 4-0.

The Tars (19-8, 4-3 SSC) scored all four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning against the Tritons (13-11, 3-4 SSC) to eventually break a tie for fifth in the league standings after both teams entered today knotted at 3-3 in the SSC schedule.

Fogle faced one batter over the minimum and recorded eight strikeouts in a premier pitching duel against Eckerd's own Erin Dixson.

Dixson began the game with four consecutive scoreless innings and wrapped up her 11th complete game this spring with three earned runs allowed on six hits.

Sophomore Kirby Parnell reached Fogle for the only hit she would allow, a two-out single on a bunt legged out in the third inning.

Rollins scored four runs on four hits and had the assistance of a pair of errors on the infield to snap the scoreless tie in the fifth frame.

Eckerd and Rollins will meet again tomorrow at MLK Park for a doubleheader set to get underway at 1 p.m.
