Box Score

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Eckerd College baseball team saw its three-game win streak snapped in a 6-4 loss to Florida Tech on Friday night at the Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field.

Eckerd (12-6, 2-2 SSC) will complete the three-game Sunshine State Conference series with Florida Tech (17-6, 2-2 SSC) in a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon beginning at 12 p.m. EST.

Sophomore Rowdy Andrews got the Tritons started in the top of the first inning, driving a single to left field and stealing second base during Lincoln Dunham's at-bat. Two outs later, both Chris Hanson and Carter Cashman added singles to score Andrews and Mike Vavasis, respectively, and put the Tritons ahead 2-0.

The Panthers picked away at Eckerd's lead in their half of the first inning. Andrew Bartlett led off the inning on a single to left field, bringing up Grant McKown. During McKown's at-bat, Bartlett stole second base, and a single up the middle from McKown would bring him across the plate.

In the bottom of the third inning, starter Richard Cruz-Sanchez worked out of a bases-loaded situation to keep the Tritons in the lead, 2-1, but the Panthers would push a run across in the fourth in Dan Bodziak to tie the game at two.

In the fifth, a two-out RBI single from Mike Abraham would give Eckerd a 3-2 edge, but the Panthers' Allen answered with a solo home run in their half of the inning to tie the game at three.

In the sixth, sophomore left-hander Taylor Owens came in to pitch for the Tritons and retired the side, but the Panthers added the go-ahead run in the seventh on Tritons' error. Owens had previously tossed 5.2 scoreless innings in relief, striking out 12 in four separate appearances.

In the eighth, the Panthers added to their lead on a two RBI double to left-center from Bartlett to make it, 6-3.

The Tritons made a late ninth-inning push, scoring one run on an Abraham single, but Florida Tech's reliever, Jerrod Leinhauser finished out the remainder of the inning unscathed in a bases-loaded situation.

Both Andrews and Abraham tallied three hits in the loss. Andrews scored twice while Abraham added two RBI.
