ST.PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd College baseball team collected 16 hits en route to a 15-4 win over Clearwater Christian College
on Tuesday night at the Turley Athletic Complex.
Junior
Mike Abraham led the Tritons in hits, going 3-for-3 with one run scored and two RBI. Sophomore
Rowdy Andrews added two hits --including his first homer -- two runs scored and three RBI, and senior
Chris Hanson also added two runs scored and three RBI in a 2-for-4 performance.
The Tritons (2-1, 0-0 SSC) scored the only four runs it would need to down the Cougars (0-2 overall) in the second inning.
Carter Cashman reached base on an error from CCC's third baseman Jake Reidy to start the inning and stole second base. Cashman advanced to third base on a sacrifice fly from
Mike Abraham and scored on another sacrifice fly from
James Petika.
Matt MacMahon kept the inning going with a single down the left-field line and scored on an
Adam Moreau double to center field. Andrews capped off the scoring for the inning with a towering two-run home run over the left-field fence.
The Cougars tabbed one run in the fourth inning and added their final two runs of the night in the fifth on three singles from Nick Abbruzzese, Nathan Stanley, David Edwards and a Tritons' error.
The Tritons would go on to score in five of the last six innings to accumulate their 15 runs and cement the win.
Eckerd starting pitcher
Nick Hill went 4.1 innings on the mound, surrendering three runs on five hits with one walk and struck out three.
Sophomore transfer from Lindenwood (Mo.) University
Mike Eagan came on in relief and tossed 2.2 innings, allowing only one hit and one walk and struck out four to earn the win.
Clearwater Christian's Brandon Gonzalez took the loss after throwing two innings to allow eight runs on six hits and one walk and struck out two.
