Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd College women's soccer team picked up their first conference win on Saturday afternoon as they defeated Lynn University, 2-1.
In a physical game,
Arie Anahory tabbed the first goal on a beautiful pass from
Monique Elliott to put the Tritons up a mere 10 minutes into the contest. This was Anahory's 10
th goal of the year.
Just two minutes later,
Abby Sanchez put in a goal of her own with an assist from Anahory to put EC up, 2-0.
The two goals were the only action the first half would see as Eckerd held the lead with strong defense from
Shannon Estes-Larkin,
Bekah Allen,
Elena Madrazo and
Leah Chisolm.
Within the first minute of the second half, Lynn caught Eckerd on their heels and slipped one goal past the reach of goalkeeper
Morgan Crescent, who nabbed her fifth victory of the year.
With four minutes remaining in the match, Crescent was challenged in a one-on-one and came out victorious, all but clinching the victory for the Tritons.
"I am proud of the whole team for our first conference win," said Head Coach,
Danielle Fotopoulos. "We're taking this season one day at a time and preparing for Florida Southern on Wednesday."
The Tritons (5-3, 1-0 SSC) will hit the road for their next match as they head to Lakeland to take on Florida Southern (4-2-3, 0-2 SSC). Game time is set to start at 7:30 p.m.
