Men’s Golf Finishes Final Day of Cup

ORLANDO, Fla. – For the second day in a row the conditions were perfect at the McDonough Cup with the Eckerd College men's golf team completing their third and final round on Tuesday.

Kyle Mathews owned the back nine of the Rio Pinar Country Club as he finished holes 10-18 even par. Mathews went on to par five holes on the front nine to finish with a 76 in the final round, only two over par for the course.

After all 54 holes were completed, Matt Mannion finisished one stroke behind Mathews with a total score of 235. Mannion started the final round even through holes 10, 11 and 12 before finishing with a 79.

With three birdies during the tournament, William Moraldo matched his first round score in the third round with an 82.

Just like Moraldo, teammate Paul Vogt ended the third round with the same score he posted in round one, with an 81. Vogt finished just behind Moraldo in total strokes with 246 and 243 respectively.

Victor Appelgren notched his lowest score of 88 in the second round before hitting 90 on Tuesday during the final round.

The Tritons ended the two day Cup hitting 959.

"This was a great experience for our young freshmen," said Head Coach, Bill Buttner. "They got to see really good teams. I feel they got a great sense of the caliber of play throughout the region."

Nine of the teams competing in the event were ranked nationally in the GCAA Coaches Top 25 Poll.

No. 4 Lynn University took home the top spot for team score while Florida Southern's John Van Der Laan finished first among the field of 81 with a 210 (-6).

This event marked the end of the fall schedule for the men's golf team.
