Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Saturday Afternoon, the Eckerd College Women's soccer team defeated Florida Tech, 1-0.
A defensive battle ensued at Turley Athletic Complex as both teams fought hard to deny clean shots.
FIT outshot the Tritons 12 to 3 in the first half, but the score remained 0-0 with stellar goalkeeping by
Morgan Crescent and all around tough defensive play.
Both teams entered the second half looking to get the offense going.
The Panthers were called for a penalty in the box just over a minute into the second half.
Arie Anahory was called on to take the penalty kick and did not disappoint putting in her 12th goal of the season.
Anahory continued her brilliant senior campaign entering tonight's contest as the NCAA DII leader in points per game (3.22).
The PK would eventually be the game winner as the Triton defense, led by Crescent,
Leah Chisolm,
Elena Madrazo,
Shannon Estes-Larkin and
Bekah Allen, denied every opportunity FIT had.
The 1-0 shutout gives EC the best start to conference play under Head Coach,
Danielle Fotopoulos.
"I am so proud of this team," said Fotopoulos. "They battled hard and stayed disciplined defensively. I'm also proud of our subs that came in and did a great job. It was a total team effort."
EC will take their 7-3, 3-0 record on the road as they continue conference play. The team will take on No. 23 Saint Leo University (8-2, 3-0) Wednesday at 7 p.m.
