BOCA RATON, Fla.
– The Eckerd College volleyball team was handed its first loss in three weeks, falling to Sunshine State Conference opponent Lynn University on Saturday afternoon at the de Hoernle Sports & Cultural Center, 1-3 (19-25, 25-14, 23-25, 18-25).

After six consecutive wins and five straight sweeps, the Tritons' (7-3, 1-1 SSC) streak was broken by a talented Fighting Knights' (11-4, 1-1 SSC) team -- but not from a lack of effort.

"Lynn played a great game," EC head coach Michelle Piantadosi said. "Since we are one of the better teams in our conference, opponents are going to play fearless against us because they have nothing to lose.

"You can always learn something from losses, and this can be a valuable moment for us if we decide to use it for the good going into next week," she added.

The Fighting Knights held Eckerd to its second-lowest hitting percentage on the season, .169, but Piantadosi said that despite the errors, the girls weren't tentative and continued to go hard on every play.

Junior Katarina Milojevic led the team in hitting percentage, scoring nine kills on 20 attempts. She also added a season-high eight block assists.

Junior Ali McAlvany collected 13 kills on the day, while senior Lindsay Biggs added 11 kills, five block assists as well as one solo block and 18 digs.

Lynn's .243 hitting percentage is the highest an opponent has posted since the Tritons' loss to No. 6 Southwest Minnesota State University in the season-opening weekend.

Senior Angie Caple and Freshman Marissa Tandron led the offensive charge for Lynn. Caple hit 17 for 31 (.411) and Tandron was 10 for 12 (.750) on the match.

The Tritons now return home to prepare for a three-match homestand next week in the McArthur Center as SSC play continues. The Tritons will start by hosting Florida Southern College on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 7 p.m.
