ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. –The Eckerd College women's soccer team put on an offensive show en route to a 5-0 victory over Florida Memorial University on Friday night at Turley Athletic Complex.
And for the first home game of the season, weather did not disrupt play. The Tritons and Lions clashed one day early after the match was originally scheduled to be played on Saturday, Sept. 14.
Eckerd (4-0, 0-0 SSC) fired off an astounding 42 shots on the night, including 15 on goal against the Florida Memorial (0-3, 0-0 TSC) defense.
Sophomore Michelle Spesshardt started things off for the Tritons in the 11th minute, scoring on Lions' goalkeeper Bethany Ivens. She was assisted by freshman Leah Chisolm.
Anahory added a goal less than two minutes after Spesshardt's first to extend Eckerd's lead.
Sophomore Haley Burger - assisted by fellow sophomore Abbey Walter - closed out the first half, scoring with a goal in the 41st minute for her first goal of the season.
But three goals were not enough to satisfy a hungry Tritons' offense, and Anahory netted her sixth goal of the season in the 55th minute. Sophomore forward Devon Morse earned the assist.
The night would end just how it began with Spesshardt sending her final shot into the back of the net in the 76th minute as Anahory picked up another assist. Anahory and Morse are now tied with a team-high three assists on the season.
Once again, junior goalkeeper Morgan Crescent walked away from another victory unscathed, producing her third shutout of the season.
Eckerd's defense allowed only one shot on the night with Crescent there to make the save.
The Tritons are back in action as they continue their homestand on Sept. 21 against No. 16 Rollins, a non-conference matchup. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m. EST at the Turley Athletic Complex.
