BOCA RATON, Fla.
– The Eckerd College baseball program completed a spirited three-run comeback to eventually salvage a doubleheader split against Lynn University on Sunday afternoon, winning 9-8 and falling 8-3.

The Tritons (14-19, 2-13 SSC) halted a five-game slide in the opener against the Fighting Knights (24-13, 8-4 SSC) and tallied their second win in the Sunshine State Conference standings.

Freshman infielder Adam Moreau blasted his first career home run, junior Mike Vavasis was 4-for-5 at the plate while three more Tritons enjoyed multi-hit performances.

Freshman Andrew Pierson picked up his second win of the season in middle relief while sophomore Kyle Harding shut down Lynn for the final two innings for the save.

Eckerd outhit Lynn in game one, 13-9.

In similar fashion to last night's series opener, the Fighting Knights jumped out early in the scoring column with a three-run first frame. Alex Freedman hit a solo home run and Sal Giardina Jr. had a three-run in Lynn's first trip to the plate.

EC countered with a two-run double by junior Lincoln Dunham in the third, but the Fighting Knights restored a three-run edge with two more runs in the fourth frame.

The Tritons buckled down and pounded out five hits in the seventh that translated into four runs as Eckerd took a 6-5 advantage.

In the seventh, junior Tyler Abadal roped an RBI double and junior Shane Bishop, coming off a 3-for-3 effort last night, plated the tying run with a two-out single. Senior Lee Spinelle kept the two-out magic working by driving in the go-ahead run on a double to left center.

Moreau's power swing came into play in the top of the eighth, a two-run shot over the right field wall that scored Vavasis.

The Tritons took a 9-7 lead with the Fighting Knights down to their final three outs and LU's Jason Matusik was the beneficiary of an error as he brought his team to one run down.

Harding ended the game on the high note with a swinging strikeout.

In game two, hits kept coming for the Eckerd offense with nine vs. Lynn's 10, but runs were hard to come by against the Fighting Knights as starter Kentrail Pierce fanned seven in four scoreless innings.

Lynn's Cory Elasik homered for the second time in the series along with Giardina Jr. and Ryan Lashley.

Eckerd manufactured its runs in the final two innings, including a two-run double by freshman Matt MacMahon in the seventh. Spinelle and Vavasik also doubled and sophomore James Petika plated his seventh RBI in the sixth inning.

Junior Richard Cruz-Sanchez started on the mound in the game one while sophomore Kevin Plant received the nod in game two.

The Tritons will face Clearwater Christian College for the second time this season on Tuesday evening in Clearwater at Jack Russell Stadium with a 7 p.m. start time. A free audio broadcast with live stats will be streamed on EckerdTritons.com.
