Box Score
BABSON PARK, Fla. – Junior first baseman
Chris Hanson homered for the second straight day and drove in both runs as the Eckerd College baseball program was edged by Webber International University on Wednesday night, 5-2.
One night removed from defeating Warner University on the road in Lake Wales, the Tritons (15-28 overall) contested another program from The Sun Conference as the Warriors (34-20 overall) celebrated their Senior Day.
Tonight's game marked the fourth time EC and WIU have matched up this spring.
WIU's Austin Aubuchon had a pair of RBI, including the go-ahead run driven home during the sixth inning. His sacrifice fly broke a 2-2 tie to score Ramon Sanchez.
EC freshman left-handed starter
Matt Mullins was dominant in the early stages, coming out of the gates with three perfect no-hit innings. He induced three consecutive groundouts to begin the night and struck out a total of four following an exit with one out in the fourth frame.
Hanson provided the early run support with a solo home run down the right-field side off Webber International starter Alex Greener. He leads the team in home runs with seven and RBI with his 22nd and 23rd recorded vs. WIU.
Last night, Hanson launched a three-run shot against Warner and later tied tonight's game with a bases-loaded single that found a gap through the infield in the sixth inning.
Greener would go on to finish five strong innings, allowing the one run on two hits while striking out five.
The Warriors added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh inning on three hits, including a run-scoring double by Trey Huss.
Four different Webber International relievers combined to close out the game after Greener's departure to begin the top of the sixth inning.
The Tritons will be headed to Jupiter this weekend for a three-game set against Palm Beach Atlantic University at Roger Dean Stadium. Friday's series-opening game is scheduled to get underway at 7 p.m.
