Rollins College Defeats Baseball to Open Three-Game Series, 7-1

Box Score

WINTER PARK, Fla.
– Starting pitcher Anthony Figliolia spun together a complete-game three-hit performance with 10 strikeouts to lead Rollins College past the Eckerd College baseball program on Thursday evening, 7-1.

The Tars (15-13, 2-5 SSC) recorded 13 hits as the Tritons (13-14, 1-9 SSC) had their sights set on climbing above the .500 mark for the season.

Eckerd's junior outfielder Lincoln Dunham gave the Tritons a temporary one-run edge in the top of the second inning with an RBI single, his 13th run driven in this spring.

Freshman shortstop Rowdy Andrews singled and junior first baseman Chris Hanson doubled and scored off Figliolia.

The Rollins righty Figliolia continued his recent streak of baffling the EC offense after tossing eight strong innings with one run allowed last season in a start during an April 6 matchup at the Turley Athletic Complex.

After being touched up for the go-ahead run in the second, Figliolia retired 10 straight before Andrews singled up the middle in the sixth. He didn't allow a base runner the rest of the way other than a hit batter with two outs in the ninth.

His counterpart on the mound, senior Jordan Huchro, blanked the Tars for the first two innings before being reached for a pair of runs in the bottom of the third frame.

Huchro scattered 10 hits over six innings while allowing four earned runs. He struck out one and walked a pair.

The Tars had three hits apiece from leadoff hitter Hunter Mayfield, a transfer from The Ohio State University, and Second Team All-Sunshine State Conference performer Zach Persky.

RC's Boston Langley also slugged a solo home run to lead off the eighth inning and Matt Hendricks went 2-for-4 with three RBI at the plate.

The Tars and Tritons will resume their SSC series today at Alfond Stadium for an afternoon doubleheader. The first pitch of game one is scheduled to get underway at 1 p.m. EST.
