ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. –
After earning its first Sunshine State Conference win the night before, the Eckerd College baseball program suffered a pair of losses on Saturday afternoon against Nova Southeastern University, 26-2 and 9-2.

The Sharks (16-8, 2-1 SSC) batted around four times and had 30 hits in the opener to translate into a tough decision for the Tritons (12-12, 1-8 SSC). NSU grabbed control early in game two and finished off the sweep using a variety of arms in the pen.

Nova Southeastern's No. 9 hitter Kavan Thompson woke up from a 4-for-37 slump in the opener as the Sharks' shortstop went 9-for-9 with six runs scored in both combined games.

Thompson's gaudy line was one of several that were all too similar for the Sharks, including a 4-for-5 effort with five RBI by Kevin Reynolds, six runs scored by leadoff hitter Angel Navarro and three more hits with four RBI from Brandon Sedell.

All of the offense was more than enough for All-SSC pitcher Zachary Westcott, who improved to 2-1 on the season with five strikeouts in five innings. He gave up both runs on six hits and walked three.

Three more NSU relievers combined for four no-hit innings to close out the three-hour, thirty-six minute opener.

The Tritons used a combination of seven different pitchers to try and slow down the Nova Southeastern offense, but the Sharks were able to manufacture at least one run in every inning with the exception of a scoreless third inning.

EC also committed five errors, but four came in the second inning when just one run came across the plate.

Freshman catcher Mike Abraham went 2-for-3 and had an RBI in a two-run fourth inning. Junior Lincoln Dunham also doubled off Westcott to bring across the first run of the afternoon for the Tritons.

Nova Southeastern scored the first seven runs of the game before the Tritons thwarted the shutout bid with runs in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings of the finale.

Sophomore catcher James Petika blasted a solo home run, his first of the season, and Abraham had his second RBI of the afternoon on an infield chopper.

In his first start of the season, NSU's lefty Mitchell Buerosse pitched four perfect innings before being pulled in favor of Josh Glick. Buerosse fanned four in his first outing of the year to earn the win by pitching the minimum required.

Jose Rodriguez recorded three RBI as the main offensive weapon in game two for NSU.

The Tritons will return to the Turley Athletic Complex on Monday night to face Ave Maria University for the second time this season. First pitch for the non-conference game is set for 7 p.m.
