Baseball Locks Down Webber International University, 6-4

Box Score

BABSON PARK, Fla.
– Junior first baseman Chris Hanson slugged his first home run, senior third baseman Lee Spinelle clobbered a three-run double and the Eckerd College baseball program closed the door on Webber International University in its first road contest Wednesday evening, 6-4.

The Tritons (3-1, 0-0 SSC) assembled back-to-back wins in less than 24 hours from taking the field in a home rout against Clearwater Christian College.

Sophomore Kyle Harding spun 4 1/3 scoreless innings to pick up his first win on the mound in a relief role and freshman Jared Habershaw recorded two of the final three outs via the strikeout for his first save of the spring.

Hanson continued his torrid start to the season one game removed from going 4-for-4 with four RBI and three doubles against Clearwater Christian.

With a strong 2-for-4 effort against the Warriors (1-4, 0-0 TSC), the transfer from Pasco-Hernando Community College upped his season line to a gaudy 7-for-12 (.583) start to his season.

Hanson launched his solo blast with one out in the top of the second inning to get back a run Eckerd conceded in the first frame.

Sophomore southpaw Kevin Plant, making his third appearance in four games this year, yielded a pair of earned runs on five hits in the no-decision effort. Two runs on his line were unearned with the damage coming following a two-out error in the bottom of the second.

The Tritons faced a 3-1 deficit briefly before breaking out for a four-run third inning.

A two-out infield error scored one run, and after Hanson was beaned, it loaded the bases for Spinelle. He unloaded on an offering from Cody Palmquist to score Hanson, junior Tyler Abadal and freshman Jake O'Rourke, for a comfortable 5-2 lead.

Spinelle added his fourth RBI of the night with a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh. He reached base in all four plate appearances, including a walk and hit by pitch.

Enter in Harding, who made a lengthy appearance from the pen in the season opener against Warner University.

The transfer from Florida Christian College befuddled the Warriors to the tune of five strikeouts and just three hits with one walk issued.

Harding induced a bases-loaded fielder's choice with the second out of the fifth inning recorded at home. He then fanned Josh Longbrake looking to end the threat.

He mowed down the side in the eighth before giving way to Habershaw, a hard-throwing righty who picked up the extra-inning win vs. Warner in his first collegiate appearance.

The Tritons will remain idle for nearly a week before hitting the road to face Saint Leo University on Tuesday, Feb. 12, in a non-conference showdown.
