ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.
– Florida Tech grabbed both games of a doubleheader to complete a Sunshine State Conference sweep against the Eckerd College baseball program on Saturday afternoon at the Turley Athletic Complex, 8-0 and 8-6.

The Tritons (5-7, 0-3 SSC) carved out a four-run lead to begin game two, but a two-out, three-run homer in the most unusual of circumstances by Austin Allen vaulted the Panthers (11-3, 5-1 SSC) on top in the seventh.

Following a dense fog settling over the field that affected vision from players and onlookers, Allen's home run to straightaway center erased a 6-5 deficit with Florida Tech down to its final out.

The ball vanished off the bat of Allen into the night air and after a brief delay rending conditions unplayable, the fog cleared enough to resume play.

The dramatic finish came on the heels of a shutout win posted by the Panthers to get the frustrating afternoon started. Florida Tech claimed Friday night's decision by a final of 11-5.

In game two, EC freshman shortstop Rowdy Andrews remained a sparkplug for the offense since being inserted in the leadoff spot, going 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles, two runs scored and an RBI.

Andrews started the bottom half of the first with a double and was later driven in by senior Lee Spinelle for the first run of the game. Junior Tyler Abadal knocked in another run and freshman Jake O'Rourke capped the early scoring.

The Tritons took advantage of three Florida Tech errors and scored four runs on four hits in the first frame.

FT's Scott Carcaise went yard with a two-run blast in the top half of the fourth. James Mannara pitched the final three scoreless innings and struck out five to earn the relief win.

Andrews and junior Lincoln Dunham answered with RBI singles after the Panthers were able to get on the board.

Four Florida Tech pitchers combined on the six-hitter in the opener as Spinelle and O'Rourke each had two hits.

The Panthers scored in six consecutive innings after sophomore Kevin Plant dealt three scoreless frames against Florida Tech. A two-run double by Jimmie Koch in the fourth was a key swing in the final decision.

Eckerd will prepare to host Florida Memorial University on Tuesday at 7 p.m. under the lights at home.
