Men’s Tennis Falls Against No. 3 Lynn University in Spring Debut

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.
– Facing a tough challenge in third-ranked Lynn University to begin the spring season, the Eckerd College men's tennis program was defeated on Sunday morning at the Turley Athletic Complex, 9-0.
 
The Tritons (0-1, 0-1 SSC) featured a pair of newcomers in the rotation while a returning group of experienced veterans that faced the combination of two top-30 nationally-ranked Lynn singles opponents.
 
The Fighting Knights (3-0, 1-0 SSC) came into today's dual with a ranking of second in the South Region by the International Tennis Association (ITA) and remained unbeaten.
 
“Today was a tough match, but I was very proud of both teams and how competitive they were against a very tough Lynn team,” said EC Head Coach Erin Koenig. “We came away with a lot of positives today that I think we will definitely be able to add to our next match.”
 
LU's Vlad Cirla, ranked 17th, and Alessio Iannozzi, rated 28th, keyed a pair of well-contested battles for EC senior Dylan Randazzo and freshman Frazier Springfield in singles action, respectively.
 
Springfield and senior Ben Levy gave Lynn's Iannozzi and Simon Gloeckner all they could handle in an 8-5 defeat in the No. 2 doubles slot.
 
The other doubles combos of junior Madison Durley and freshman Jonathan Cheng/Randazzo and sophomore Stephen Felman, battled their way to 8-2 and 8-3 scores, respectively.
 
Springfield and Cheng each made their collegiate debuts as the No. 3 and No. 5 singles contestants, while Randazzo (No. 1), Felman (No. 2), Levy (No. 4) and Durley (No. 6), rounded out the lineup against the Fighting Knights.
 
Next up in the spring slate is a home contest against No. 22 Florida Southern College coming up on Friday, Feb. 15, with a scheduled 3 p.m. start time.
